The perfect blend of gravel and road cycling which opens the window to the spectacular Sierras de Cazorla natural park. This ‘interior paradise’ is Europe’s biggest protected natural space and the lungs of southern Spain. A good 30% of the route follows quality gravel grinding tracks. Imagine spectacular mountain scenery, whitewashed villages, castles, quiet roads, excellent cuisine and Andalusian folklore all rolled together! The terrain includes many peaks around the 1000-1500m elevation with ‘El Yelmo’ the biggest challenge standing at 1800m. By starting in Granada and finishing in Cordoba this cycling tour also provides the opportunity to visit two of Spain’s most historic cities!

Southern Spain Cycling Tour 2024 | Brief Itinerary

Day 1 – 19 October 2024

Meet in Granada and transfer to Jaen province famous for its castles, battles and olive oil! A welcome ride follows to get acquainted with the ‘Andalucian’ gravel.

Day 2 – 20 October 2024

Cycle down to the turquoise-coloured waters of the Tranco reservoir, through small Andalusian villages and ride up and down quiet mountain roads with spectacular views! Tonight, you relax in the heart of the Cazorla natural park.

Day 3 – 21 October 2024

Cross ‘Campos de Hernan Perea’, a desolate limestone mountain plateau where gravel reins and the elevation never drops below 1600m. One could be riding the Gobi Desert or on the moon for that sake!

Day 4 – 22 October 2024

‘Segura’ and its surrounds is a region to ride and get lost. Well not really! The old ‘Segura de la Sierra dirt road’ snakes its way for 25km and offers another spectacular day of cycling through this interior paradise.


Day 5 – 23 October 2024

KOM points on offer today! El Yelmo is the highest peak in the Cazorla natural park (1800m). A testing finish with 6 stunning switchbacks in the final kilometre. You are rewarded with 360° views at the summit!

Day 6 – 24 October 2024

A classic route which passes the ‘Puerto de las Palomas’ climb. Used in La Vuelta a España pro-race this pass boasts impressive views over the Guadalquivir Valley.

Day 7 – 25 October 2024

The challenge for today is the ‘Puerto de Tiscar’ climb. ´Tiscar´ is a Category 2 climb and the 10km descent down to Quesada is an unforgettable cycling experience!

Day 8 – 26 October 2024

El Chorro gorge high above Cazorla township is an amazing gravel climb which reaches the home of a special inhabitant. The vultures that live in the limestone caves provide a serious wow factor.

Day 9 – 27 October 2024

The tour finishes with a transfer to UNESCO Cordoba. Did you Know? During the 10th Century Cordoba was Europe´s intellectual centre. Cordoba has fast train connections with Malaga and Madrid.
